Already a colossal hit on PC, Minecraft continues to be a cash cow for indie developer Notch and his company Mojang (though who knows if the industry considers him indie anymore.) Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has sold 1 million units in its first 5 days on the market, which is already a fifth of the total units Minecraft has sold thus far on PC. And people are not just buying the game, but they’re playing it too, with Xbox 360 gamers spending 5.2 million hours mining and building.
Not bad for a game which is anything but mainstream, not having any set goals or levels but rather serving as large sandbox to be populated with gamers’ creations. And having seen recreations of the old Penn Station, the Earth, and the Taj Mahal, oh what a sandbox it is.
