Lions have accounted for nearly a quarter of all NFL arrests in 2012

The San Diego Union-Tribune has compiled a list of all arrests and citations involving NFL players since 2000. As the Detroit Free Press points out, 5 out of 21 players arrested thus far in 2012 play for the Detroit Lions. In other words, the Lions, one of 32 teams in the NFL which equals 3% of the league, account for 24% of arrests of NFL players this year.

DT Nick Fairley, has been arrested twice so far, for DUI and possession of marijuana, respectively. RB Mikel Leshoure has been arrested twice as well, both times for possession of marijuana. OT Johnny Culbreath has been arrested once for marijuana possession.

It sure does seem these Lions players love the ganj. Perhaps these infractions can be chalked up to boredom resulting from the off-season. Either way, I am sure Detroit Lions brass were happy to see the start of OTAs and preparations for the upcoming season, as they can better police these players’ own extracurricular activities. That being said, there is still plenty of time in 2012 for another team to claim the title of “most arrested team in the NFL”. Who will it be? Minnesota, San Francisco, or Seattle, accounting for two arrests each? Who needs the playoffs when you’ve got a competition that is this neck-in-neck?

You are just dreading the real playoffs when we knock out GB in the wildcard…. just wait.

Wow, as a Lions fan, the best you can hope for is a Wild Card berth? Kind of sad. Also, what are the chances both the Lions and the Packers don’t win the division, but yet still have the two best records amongst the other non-division-winners?
