Chicago-area math teacher provides realistic homework problem with which Charles “Peanut” Tillman takes issue

All Pro cornerback Charles “Peanut” Tillman (no relation) of the Chicago Bears was in a suburban runner’s store promoting his eponymous Cornerstone Foundation charity. Redditor FeverishlyCold, who is also the store owner’s daughter, was keeping busy doing her homework, when she came across the following problem:

The Packers play the Bears 4 times in two seasons. The Packers, being a much better team have an 80% chance of winning each game. What is the probability that the Bears win all four games?
What is the probability that the Bears win at least one game?

The girl approached Mr. Tillman and requested his autograph on the loaded homework problem. Peanut did one better, making sure to call out the Cheesehead teacher for including Packers propaganda in homework issued in Bears’ country:

Mr. Amrein,

This is Charles “Peanut” Tillman of the Chicago Bears and I’m shocked that you would have a problem like this for your students. The probability that the Bears would win in my opinion is 100%. Please do not and I repeat DO NOT send them home with math homework that is disrespectful to our team, city and our beloved Chicago Bears.

P.S. Bear Down

And that’s it for the unbiased reporting of this story.

FeverishlyCold reports that the teacher thought the response was hilarious and “could not stop laughing,” probably at the ridiculousness of the assertion that the Bears would beat the Packers 100% of the time. The teacher also let her off the hook for homework assignments for the rest of the week, again presumably to ease her recovery from the delusions in which the Bears are worthy of even stepping on the same field as the Packers, let alone beating them. No word though as to why a tough professional football player thought “Peanut” was an appropriate nickname. Go Pack!

Not sure how the student learned any math skills or probability theory from the whole episode. Seems to me peanut should go back to school. Also, if memory serves me right – packers have won the last four – so at least his example is historically factually correct.
