EA has officially merged two Australian mobile developers which the mega-publisher has purchased within the past 2 years. IronMonkey Studios, which was responsible for the mobile version of Dead Space and Mirror’s Edge, and Firemint, which produced the likes of Flight Control and Spy Mouse, have been combined to form “Australia’s largest game development studio.” Let that sink in for a moment: the largest game developer in Australia works solely on games for mobile platforms. If that isn’t an indication of the direction in which the industry is moving, then I don’t know what is.
In the process of the merger, the respective names of the developers have been amalgamated into the pretty sweet “Firemonkeys”, along with their logos with the result being the above logo, which I find rivals the name in terms of awesomeness. Let’s just hope this is the extent of the changes EA introduces for the studios, as we know how these things usually go.
